Japanese city of Kawaguchi donates ambulance

Japan Saitama Prefecture Kawaguchi City Mayor Nobuo Okunoki donated a high-quality second-hand ambulance at a request made by Sri Lankan Ambassador Sanjiv Gunasekara in a meeting held regarding the donation of a fire engine in Sri Lanka a few months ago.

SaiNet Corporation, an IT company in the city of Kawaguchi, and the Rotary Club of Saitama Prefecture have agreed to cover the cost of transporting this ambulance to Sri Lanka. Kawaguchi City hosted an official handover of the ambulance in a ceremony attended by the mayor, many supporters, politicians from Saitama Prefecture and the press on May 27.

While appreciating the goodwill gesture of the citizens of Kawaguchi City and the mayor, the Ambassador mentioned the urgent need for intensive care medical equipment due to the peak of the new variant of COVID-19 currently in Sri Lanka. . The Ambassador also underlined the timeliness of this donation and referred to the close people-to-people bond, the popularity of Japan among the people of Sri Lanka and the unique bilateral relationship the two countries have enjoyed over the past seven decades.

The Mayor of Kawaguchi City, city officials and the Sainet Corporation have given assurances to work with the Sri Lankan Embassy for further cooperation in the future.
